Tris Prior (the protagonist) lives in a futuristic city of dystopian Chicago in which society is divided into five factions. Each group is based on personality and virtue that they embrace and excel at. These are Abnegation (selfless), Erudite (intellectual), Dauntless (brave), Candor (honest), and Amity (peaceful). The rest are Factionless (not classified), who have no status or privilege in society.
Of the 5 personality/virtues stated above Abnegation (selfless), Erudite (intellectual), Dauntless (brave), Candor (honest), and Amity (peaceful), what do you think is the most important and why?
Every 16 year old teen undergos a serum-induced psychological aptitude test to reveal their best-suited faction. After that, they will attend the Choosing Ceremony where they must choose to stay in their faction by birth or switch to another - permanently.
In the US a young person becomes legally an adult at 21, but in Mexico at 18. What is the age to be considered an adult in your country? When is a young person old enough to make their own decisions in life?
Tori (a Dauntless woman) who administered Tris’ test, warned her to keep her results secret, as it shows that she is suited for multiple factions, meaning she's what's known as Divergent. Tris comes from an Abnegation family but chose Dauntless.
Was there a situation where you had to make a choice between disappointing others and following your heart?
Dauntless newbies must undergo further training consisting of intense physical and psychological tests to become official members, those who fail will become Factionless and forced to live in poverty. Tris’s challenge is not only to prove that she is worthy of her chosen faction but also to hide her Divergent identity.
Tell me about a movie you have watched that you think had a very great concept.
The reason Divergents are being eliminated from society is that they ruin the idea of the system. Leaders are afraid as to what Divergents are capable of doing. Divergents might be able to see through the terrible class system and raise awareness to overthrow it, putting the leaders out of power.
Is the society in your country divided? Are these groups constantly fighting to gain control of the power?
Also, Divergents cannot be controlled as they think independently which makes them a big threat. In this movie, Abnegation runs the government, but Erudite wants to take over so they control the mind of the Dauntless to ruin Abnegation. Divergents don't get brainwashed. Follow the journey of Tris by watching the 2nd and 3rd films.
Being different is wrong and bad. Prove that the statement is false.
