Nowadays most of us are using computers to take notes and write emails. A long way behind are the times when we used to handwrite letters with paper and ink pens. Those letters took days and sometimes weeks to reach the intended receiver. But isn’t it more special? The effort and creativity it takes to handwrite and personalize letters is amazing, plus it reveals a person’s trait; their handwriting.

Back then, handwritten letters were a normal means of communication because there were no advanced technologies like email, instant text messages or the Internet. These letters frequently travel great distances to reach their intended receivers. Mail carriers were used to deliver the letters and keep in touch with friends and relatives who lived far distances apart.

Handwritten letters reflect the author's personality. For instance, based on your handwriting style, paper and writing equipment choices, stamp selections, and so on, the recipient will learn something about you. Texts messages and e-mails frequently seem the same regardless of who is writing them, but letters reveal more.

When creating these kinds of letters, you need to consider the type of pen, point size, type of ink, and color options you will be using. Some pens are better suited for some scenarios than others. For example men used to handwrite poems with perfumed ink pens and send them to the woman they wanted to marry. This used to make women fall in love even when they had never seen the man before.

Fountain pens have a quill-like tip and instead of dipping the pen into ink to write, they hold the ink internally. It uses water-based ink; however, this type of pen is more likely to bleed on paper. They are most commonly used in professional and business situations, and contract signatures but they're also fantastic for calligraphy and formal wedding invitations.

Ballpoint pens on the other hand use thicker ink and write when the ballpoint tip is moving. This pen uses oil-based ink and it dries immediately. This is more common for exams, casual writing, note- taking, and journaling since it can write quickly and for lengthy periods of time.

Other types of pens include the following: Rollerball pens – similar to ballpoint pens, but uses water- based ink which flows faster and soaks into the paper more. Gel pens – it uses thick water-based gel ink, there is less smudging in this pen making it effective for smooth writing but has a shorter life span. And marker pens which includes permanent markers, non-permanent markers, highlighters, and porous point pens.

Today, most people would say it is too time-consuming to write a letter when you can send a text, an email, or simply use social media. They offer speed and convenience, that is why somehow when you receive a handwritten letter these days, it would feel special.
