Solar is the most abundant source of energy on Earth. Solar energy is a significant answer for solving the climate problem and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels by capturing the sun's energy and converting it into electricity for your home or business. There are 173, 000 terawatts (trillions of watts) of solar energy constantly striking the Earth. That is more than 10,000 times the total energy consumption of the entire earth.

Solar energy has been developed for more than a century. It was initially employed largely to generate steam, which could subsequently be used to power machinery. But it wasn't until Edmond Becquerel discovered the "photovoltaic effect" that sunlight could be converted into solar electric energy. Following Becquerel's discovery, Charles Fritts invented the first true solar cell in 1893, which was made by covering sheets of selenium with a thin layer of gold. And this was the start of the growth of solar panels.

Electricity is traditionally generated using fossil fuels like coal and natural gas. When fossil fuels are used to generate energy, hazardous gases are released, which contributes to air pollution and climate change. Using solar panels helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In Batesville, Arkansas, teachers’ salaries increased because of the school's use of solar power. Megan Renihan, the Batesville School District's communications coordinator, claims that teacher salaries were below average in the state and smaller than the other districts in the country four years ago. So, the district started looking for ways to reduce costs on utilities.

They installed about 1, 500 solar panels, which now provide about half of the district's electricity. They were the first school district in the state of Arkansas to invest in solar panels. Moreover, thousands of LED lights were installed, windows and HVAC systems were rebuilt, leaks were fixed, and building insulation was improved to further reduce energy costs.

Thanks to the energy-saving devices. The district was able to give all their teachers a salary raise. All of the energy collected by the panels saves nearly $1 million that is being put back into the hands of the teachers. More teachers now want to work there and fewer are leaving.

According to the Center for Sustainable Energy, solar panel installation might cost anywhere between $15,000 and $25,000 on average. Factors affecting the cost are the location of your house and how much electricity you need. You also need to look for the cost of the equipment, as well as labor, permits, inspections, and system maintenance costs.
