We all have to be productive. Even people who are born with a silver spoon in their mouth, like to feel that they make a difference in the world through whatever activity they decide to do.
Some people feel inspired by life events to become doctors, nurses or firefighters. Some of them follow their parent’s steps, some even belong to several generations of the same occupation, for example when a grandfather is a policeman, the father becomes a policeman and the son ends up being a policeman too.
Some people work very hard to ascend through the promotion ladder because they think that if they get their boss’ position and pay, they will be very happy. Others just want to have a job that pays the bills and offers financial stability. They are not interested in ascending the promotion ladder.
Some of you are young and you’re probably still considering what job or career path you should follow. Science and technology are advancing very fast and new careers are forming.
Physician assistant, software developer and nurse practitioner are occupations that enjoy the most demand and the best pay nowadays. These occupations require many years in school and they are time demanding and stressful.
When a person works in an occupation that brings her joy usually reports that she has lower levels of stress and higher job satisfaction.
A common saying in English is: “find a job that you love, so you don’t have to work for the rest of your life.” People who report that they have a calling, not a job or a career, confirm that they usually earn well, but they would do their job even if they did not receive a payment for doing it.
