Our mind is the most important tool we have to control our life. We rely on it every single day of our lives but we usually take it for granted. Carol Dweck is well–known for her works about motivation and mindset. According to her, there are two mindsets: fixed and growth.

Are you a person that believes that leaders are born with natural talent? Or do you consider that any person with the right mindset and training can become a leader?

If 1.) You believe you can learn what it takes to achieve personal and professional success. 2.) You believe that with effort, we can develop and improve our intelligence, talents, and skills. And 3.) You perceive challenges as opportunities for growth and expansion. Then congrats! You have a growth mindset.

Do you think all people can learn and develop their intelligence, talent and skills? What does it take for a person to want to learn and develop these positive traits?

Oppositely, those who have a fixed mindset believe that intelligence, talent, and other qualities are static. They have little drive or passion to learn more about life, and to acquire necessary ideas and perspectives. They fail to embrace the positive aspects of life. The result? — a limited mindset, better known as a fixed mind.

How can we motivate people with a fixed mindset to move into a growth mindset? Do we really want a world where all people have a growth mindset?

People, according to Dweck, have the ability to change their minds from fixed to wroth. To change it, you have to start enjoying the journey rather than focusing only on the end result. When having trouble with a task, consider that you just haven't mastered it yet. Accept challenges and know that mistakes are one of the most effective methods to learn.

Do you consider yourself to have a growth mindset? Are mistakes really an effective method to learn? Explain.

Remember, the real growth comes from mindset plus action. The learning and developing process needs to be backed up by effort. "Vision is not enough. It must be combined with a venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps; we must also step up the stairs." — Vaclav Havel. The term “talk the talk, walk the walk” is a phrase in English that means a person should support what they say, not just with words, but also through action.

Do you consider that you talk the talk and walk the walk? Who is a person you have encountered in your life that talks the talk and walks the walk?

But Dweck points out some common misconceptions about these mindsets. This is not an either/or issue in which we categorize people. We are all exposed to both mindsets. We can have a growth mindset in one aspect of our lives and a fixed mindset in another, or we can switch back and forth between the two. We must remember that humans have limitations, but being aware of the different situations in our lives where we don’t have a growth mindset wins half the battle. The other half is taking the necessary action to change. Let’s start today!

Now that you have learned the positive impact of having a growth mindset, what specific steps can you do to incorporate it in all aspects of your life? Do you feel you have a lot or only a little to change into a growth mindset?
